5 Ways Sports Improves Health
2. Improve bone health and increase cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness.
3. Controls body weight and reduces risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes.
4. Teaches positivity, teamwork, and perseverance.
5. Teaches resilience and how to overcome adversity.
Sports allows children to be physically active while doing something they enjoy. They are able to grow as an individual, as well as a teammate through the guidance of coaches. Coaches are teaches who work outside of a traditional classroom. They teach positivity, teamwork, how to overcome challenges or adversity, and how to be mentally strong. Achieving goals and surpassing challenges will bring a sense of accomplishment as an individual and teammate. This feeling will translate into their overall mental health as their confidence in themselves grows.
Life is not always going to go our way and obstacles will get in the way. The ability to be resilient allows our kids to not let a setback affect their mentality. Our setbacks can be viewed as learning opportunities. We teach our athletes how to handle a challenging situation or upset, which reduces the feeling of self-defeat.
Pushing through a difficult situation and being able to look back and feel successful that it was overcome will boost confidence. The next time they face a challenge, they will avoid giving up and use what they learned to overcome it. Adapting this change will slowly improve or reduce the risk of mental health disorders.
Living a health lifestyle as a child can increase the chances of maintaining the health lifestyle as an adult. Life threatening diseases can develop early in life and be challenging to undo, but getting a jump start on prevention will reduce the risks of diseases developing as we age.
